Known in private life as Michael Owusu Addo, Sarkodie is a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife recording artist.

Sarkodie often raps in his native language Twi, as many Ghanaians recognize him as one of the leading Hip hop and Hiplife artists in the country. He is also considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance.

In 2010, he received many awards and nominations ranging from “Artist of the Year” to “Album of the Year”, won the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2012 BET Awards, and was nominated in the same category at the 2014 BET Awards.

He is a brand ambassador for Samsung Mobile,  FanMilk Ghana and he is currently in partnership with Tigo Ghana, a brand that sponsored his Rapperholic tour. He has his own clothing line called “Sark by Yas clothing line”.

In 2016 & 2017 Africa Youth Awards named him among the 100 Most Influential Young Africans, an initiative instituted to promote African youth movements and achieving and also restoring excellence in the works of young people across Africa.
